Dr. Walter K. Lindenmann is an independent consultant, specializing in public relations and marketing communications research, measurement and evaluation services.He recently retired from Ketchum, the international public relations counseling firm, after creating its Research and Measurement Department and serving for 12 years as the company’s Senior Vice President/ Director of Research. Prior to that, he spent two years as manager of the New York City office of Opinion Research Corporation, where he specialized in conducting surveys for the financial services community, and 10 years as president of Group Attitudes Corporation, the research subsidiary of Hill and Knowlton, Inc., the multi-national public relations counseling firm.
During his career, he has supervised the conducting of more than 1,500 public relations, public affairs, marketing, and advertising research projects, most of them for large corporations, financial service organizations, trade associations, government agencies, utilities, education and health groups, and charitable organizations. He also has had an extensive amount of experience in designing and carrying out research projects aimed at measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of public relations and marketing communications programs and activities.
A sociologist by training with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, Dr. Lindenmann is a former public relations executive and newspaper reporter and editor. He is a frequent lecturer on public relations and market research, and has served as a visiting professor at the Syracuse University Newhouse School for Public Communications. He has conducted more than 85 management seminars and workshops on the fundamentals of public relations and market research for such organizations as the American Red Cross AT&T Borealis A/S Borden’s Inc. Fidelity Investments General Electric GTE Exxon the Institute for International Research . . . Motorola the National Dairy Council the Public Relations Society of America United Technologies and the U.S. Army.
In recent years, Dr. Lindenmann has designed and carried out major survey research projects for such organizations as Ameritech Corporation the Dow Chemical Company Federal Express the Lions Clubs International the Mayo Clinic the National Federation of Independent Business Nokia, Inc. Pharmacia & Upjohn VISA USA and Xerox Corporation.
In addition to the Ph.D., he holds a B.A. in English from Queens College, New York City, and an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University. He was one of the founders and is a past president of the New York chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. He also is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and has served on its national Research Committee. In 1999, he served as the first chairman of the Institute for Public Relations’ newly created Commission on Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation.
