Joseph Czabovsky, Ph.D., has worked in media and public relations for fifteen years. I began my career in event planning, media development and creative video production for events in Los Angeles, arranging everything from celebrity birthday parties to ghostwriting creative content. Upon the industry strike in 2007-2008, I moved to Dallas to join a boutique Ad/PR agency where I wore all hats. Shortly after, I joined the Obama campaign to organize community relations efforts. Over the last 14 years, I’ve obtained a J.D., and PhD in public relations and have taught and researched at UNC Chapel Hill since 2012. Recently tenured, I’m a professional faculty member, meaning my work is meant to bridge the practice between academic knowledge and industry. My area of focus is PR measurement, especially as it relates to niche and minority audiences. I’ve been a member of IPR’s Measurement Commission for the last two years and have published market research with other IPR members, as well as a couple dozen publications in national and international press and/or academic outlets. I look forward to continuing to offer my expertise to the profession, especially as it relates to applied PR research and practical recommendations.
