PRNewswire examined how professionals issue press releases and use new technology to create them.

A survey of 665 public relations industry professionals was conducted from July 10-31, 2024. Additionally, PRNewswire analyzed more than 100,000 U.S. press releases from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.

Key findings include:

1.) 83% of professionals distributed their press releases via social media, followed by 69% who used a news distribution service (e.g., PRNewswire, Business Wire).
2.) 38% of professionals reported that their biggest challenge with press releases was not generating anticipated media pickup.
3.) 26% of respondents have used generative AI to create press release content, while 46% of respondents were “open to using it in the near future.”
4.) The top three uses for AI in press releases included writing headlines (49%), writing body copy (41%), and proofreading content (41%).
