Pew Research Center examined how people’s political views and experiences differ depending on the websites and apps they use.

An online survey of more than 10,000 internet users was conducted from March 18-24, 2024, in the U.S. The survey covered four social media platforms: TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.

Key findings include:

1.) 59% of X users said they have the app to keep up with political issues, compared to only 36% of TikTok users, and 26% of Facebook users.
2.) 56% of Instagram users, 49% of TikTok users, and 43% of Facebook users said that their respective app has no impact on democracy
3.) Perceptions of X are more positive than negative.
–38% of X users said it’s “mostly good” for democracy, 27% said it’s “mostly bad,” and 34% said it has “no impact.”
–This is a 6% increase in the share of users who said it’s “mostly good” from last year.
