Mental Health America examined current trends in workplace culture and internal communication. The study defined the following terms:

Healthy workplace: a workplace that positively promotes the well-being of their employees.
Unhealthy workplace: a workplace that negatively impacts the well-being of their employees.

A survey of 3,915 employees across 21 industries in the U.S. was conducted from April 15–July 9, 2024.

Key findings include:

1.) 90% of respondents in unhealthy workplaces and 44% of respondents in healthy workplaces reported that stress from work impacts their relationships and sleep.
2.) 87% of respondents who felt psychologically safe at their workplace reported that they “felt confident advocating for their and others’ needs.”
3.) 63% of Generation Z respondents reported that they do not feel comfortable sharing their opinions in the workplace.
4.) 47% of employees shared that their employer “encourages clear and transparent communication.”
