USC Annenberg and the International Association of Business Communicators examined how communicators address the challenges of remote work and shape internal communications strategy.

An online survey of 204 communications professionals, who oversaw or were directly responsible for internal or employee communications, was conducted from April 8 to May 2, 2024.

Key findings include:
1.) Managing remote work was the primary challenge for communicators.
– 67% of respondents expressed remote work as a challenge, and 26% called it a “major” challenge.
2.) 57% reported “maintaining positive morale” as a challenge at their organization because of managing “work from home” and “remote work” programs.
3.) 66% of participants agreed that internal communications have contributed to the success of the communications function overall.
– Despite this positive impact on the function, 45% of communicators said remote work has increased levels of conflict between management and employees.
