NielsenIQ examined how consumer shopping habits have changed over time, and what organizations should anticipate heading into 2025.

An online survey of more than 17,000 consumers was conducted in June and July 2024 in 23 countries.

Key findings include:

1.) 32% of consumers said their financial position has worsened in the past year.
 – The top three reasons for worsened financial positions were increased costs of living (76%), economic slowdown (41%), and job insecurity(31%).
2.) 43% of respondents said they would search social media for product information before a traditional search engine.
3.) 31% said they would change brands based on social media recommendations. 
– However, only 10% of Boomers and 23% of Generation X respondents agreed, compared to 40% of Millennials and 44% of Generation Z.
