The Institute for Public Relations announced today that Rita Linjuan Men, a doctoral candidate at the University of Miami, is the 2010 Ketchum Excellence in Public Relations Research Award winner. Sponsored by Ketchum in cooperation with the Institute for Public Relations, the award includes a $2,500 study grant and a paid eight-week internship at Ketchum in New York City.

Men’s research, titled “Measuring the Impact of Leadership Style and Employee Empowerment on Perceived Organizational Reputation,” examines the impact of organizational leadership style and employee empowerment on perception of organizational reputation from an internal public’s perspective. The paper will be made available for download on the Institute website, instituteforpr.org, upon completion of her internship.

“Her proactive attitude, curious nature and warm personality will no doubt have a huge impact in New York,” said Justin Miller, Senior Manager, Ketchum.

Men earned her Bachelor of Art in Business Administration from Zhejiang University and her Master of Philosophy in Communications Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University.

The Ketchum Excellence in Public Relations Research Award was created in 1992. Its goal is to foster the development of new public relations research methods, especially measuring the effectiveness of public relations solutions.

Graduate students majoring in communications or research who have completed at least one year of study towards a Masters or Ph.D. degree, are eligible to enter the competition. All proposed research projects were judged for practical as well as theoretical value by a panel of distinguished researchers, educators and practitioners from the Commission on Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation. The commission was formed under the auspices of the Institute to establish standards for public relations research and measurement, and to issue authoritative best practices white papers which are available free on the Institute’s website.

The Institute for Public Relations is a global, independent non-profit foundation headquartered at the University of Florida. It bridges the academic and professional communities supporting public relations research and mainstreaming this knowledge into practice.
