The Institute for Public Relations announced today that Lynne Sallot, Ph.D.,
will receive the 2008 Pathfinder Award for outstanding scholarly contributions
to professional knowledge. Vidya Sawhny will be honored for receiving the Ketchum
Excellence in Public Relations Research Award, and the Northwestern Mutual Best
Master’s Thesis Award will go to Hye Kyung Kim.

The three awards will be featured at the Annual Distinguished Lecture &
Awards Dinner on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the New York City Yale Club.
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Sir Martin Sorrell, Group Chief Executive

Sallot, professor of public relations at the University of Georgia, will receive
the $2,000 Pathfinder grant for a program of scholarly research that has made
a significant contribution to public relations. Sallot’s research theme,
“Connecting Theory with Research, Teaching, and Practice,” focuses
on theory development and application. In 2007, Sallot received PRSA’s
Outstanding Educator Award, and in 2008 she was honored with the University
of Georgia’s highest teaching award, the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching
Professorship.

Ketchum Excellence in Public Relations Research honoree Vidya Sawhny, a master’s
student at Michigan State University, won a $7,500 eight-week internship in
New York City and will also receive a $2,500 study grant. Sawhny’s research
highlights the similarities and differences between the measurement guidelines
of sustainability reports created by governments and global CSR organizations.

Hye Kyung Kim, a master’s student at Syracuse University, will receive
a $2,000 prize for the Northwestern Mutual Best Master’s Thesis Award
while her faculty advisor, Dennis F. Kinsey, Ph.D., will receive $1,000. Kim’s
winning thesis is titled “Stakeholders’ Evaluation Processes of
a Racial Crisis.” It explores the necessity of building relationships
to minimize reputation and financial damage caused by a racial crisis.
