IPR is featuring research and some of the many AAPI pioneers who have impacted the world today in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month.

Pew Research Center examined the attitudes and views of Asian Americans toward affirmative action.

An online survey of over 7,006 Asian adults was conducted from July 5, 2023, to Jan. 27, 2024.

Key findings include:

–50% of Asian American adults said affirmative action is a good thing.
    –19% said affirmative action is a bad thing and 27% they didn’t know if it was good or bad.
–Only 21% of Asian adults said colleges should consider race and ethnicity when deciding which students to accept.
    –Instead, they believed important factors in admissions to be high school grades (87%), community service (71%), and standardized test scores (71%) were important factors in admissions. 
–The longer Asian American immigrants have lived in the U.S., the more likely they were to disagree with affirmative action.
    –12% of immigrants (10 years or less) disagreed with affirmative action.
    –17% of immigrants (11-20 years in the U.S.) disagreed with affirmative action.
    –25% of immigrants (21+ years in the U.S.) disagreed with affirmative action.
