Deloitte analyzed board diversity in Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies. The report identified changes in the number of board seats held by individuals in underrepresented racial and ethnic groups between 2020 and 2022.

A census-level analysis of board directors from 92 Fortune 100 companies and 477 Fortune 500 companies was conducted using the 2022 Board Diversity Census.

Key findings include:
— 40% of Fortune 500 board seats are held by individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
—– 8% of board seats across Fortune 500 companies were held by women from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
— Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups hold 22% of board seats across Fortune 500 companies.
— Seats held by underrepresented racial and ethnic women increased significantly more (7% to 9%) compared to underrepresented racial and ethnic men (14% to 15%) in Fortune 100 companies.
— White men (-9%) and Hispanic men (-9%) were the only two groups to decrease in percentage of board seats in Fortune 100 companies.
—– Black women gained a 38% increase in seats.
—– Asian/Pacific Islander women gained a 24% increase in seats.
—– Hispanic/Latina women gained a 46% increase in seats.
