Deloitte analyzed the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) across the communications industry and explored leaders’ perspectives on the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.

A survey of 2,835 senior leaders (C-suite and board level) split equally between IT and line of business across 16 countries was conducted from October – December 2023.

Key findings include:

1.) 79% of respondents said they expect generative AI to drive substantial transformation within their organization and industry over the next three years.
2.) 35% of respondents said they believe their organizations currently have high levels of expertise with generative AI.
— 45% said their organizations have some level of expertise.
3.) 56% of organizations are using generative AI to target tactical benefits such as improving efficiency/productivity, followed by reducing costs (35%) and improving existing products and services (29%).
4.) 41% of respondents said their organizations were only slightly or not at all prepared to address talent concerns related to generative AI adoption.
— 22% said their organizations are highly or very highly prepared.
